The Daily Mail reports:
A LibDem peer has joined the debate following Tom Chambers’s controversial Strictly Come Dancing win, calling Saturday’s final a ‘fiasco’.
Former North Cornwall MP Lord Tyler was called on the BBC to release the voting figures for the three finalists following producers’ decision to allow Chambers to progress from the semi-final, despite coming bottom of the judges leaderboard.
Lord Tyler has written to BBC Director General Mark Thompson, requesting the Corporation makes the voting figures public.
The story should come as no surprise on two counts, both already trailed on LDV:
1. As Paul Tyler has emerged as Parliament’s Che Guevara, is it so surprising that his revolutionary zeal should be channelled into the investigation of voting irregularities on Auntie’s light entertainment shows? Surely this is the very definition of counterculture?
2. It is already Established Fact (aka a poll in the Daily Mirror) that Lib Dem Parliamentarians are the most likely to want to tart themselves about in popular reality telly shows in a desperate bid for some national media exposure find new and innovative ways of reaching out to non-political voters.
But that does still leave just one question hanging in the air… Why the hell is a Lib Dem demanding an investigation into the case of a third-placed runner-up suddenly emerging as the surprise winner out of nowhere?
(It might of course be a last-ditch bid for inclusion in LDV’s 2008 Awards for Most Desperate Press Release of the Year by a Liberal Democrat).

Agreed. This is at least as deserving as Lembit’s conspiracy theory.

Without the BBC releasing the exact numbers it’s obvious that Tom won the public vote on the last 3 phone votes.
It’s because he won in the Semi’s that resulted in the all three going through (when Brucie and Tess finally explained clearly what actually happened).
Then with only 1 point from the judges the only way Tom could have made it through to the second show of Saturday was to get the full 3 points from the public.
Rachel – 3 (Judges) 2 (Public) 5 Total
Tom – 1 (Judges) 3 (Public) 4 Total
Lisa – 3 (Judges) 1 (Public) 4 Total
Tom goes through as the public vote carries more weight.
Then in the final stage is was a straight battle between the votes from the public, which Tom one.
