David Cameron’s local paper, the Witney Gazette, has the story:
THE Liberal Democrat candidate to take on Witney MP David Cameron in the next General Election has been announced. Dawn Barnes will stand for Witney against the Conservative leader in May or June next year. …
Miss Barnes, 32, said: “I was really happy, and a little surprised, to be confirmed as the Liberal Democrat candidate to stand against a man who is widely-tipped to be the next Prime Minister.
“However, it’s a real honour, and I’ll be working hard with the local party and friends and family in West Oxfordshire to get to the heart of local issues, meet local people, and show how Liberal Democrat policies will help address concerns.”
For the record, Dawn needs a 13.2% swing from the Tories to unseat Dave, the Lib Dems having leap-frogged Labour into second place in the 2005 general election.

Is this part of the lib dems decapitation strategy?
I can think of no better wielder of the axe than one of my new friends from conference Dawn. Maybe she could be the new Madame Guillotine? 🙂
More likely she will be rolling up her sleeves and campaigning in nearby seats where we have a chance of winning or need to hold on.
I’m not sure decapitation is quite what we are aiming for… But, should the 13.2% swing be achieved that will more than suffice!
How big a Labour vote is there to squeeze?
I would like to know if Dawn would aly herself with the ‘Orange Book’ group, or the ‘Beveridge’ group?
