From a party news release:
Commenting on the OFT’s decision to drop its investigation into the fairness of bank overdraft charges, Liberal Democrat Leader Nick Clegg said:
“This is extremely disappointing and a blow for millions of bank customers.
“Having come so close to overhauling an unfair system of charging that penalises vulnerable groups of people, I know that the campaign will not just stop.
“The Liberal Democrats will continue the fight for fair bank charges in Parliament and push for a change in the law if necessary so that high street banks cannot keep ripping off their customers.”

Fight it in Parliament, yes. But we should actually also be fighting this campaign in the streets, in the villages, in the Towns, in the cities.
This is exactly the type of campaign that can be best waged by our activists through good old FOCUS and door to door petitioning. And let’s make sure we include with charges the wider question of services and access, especially telephone services (such as those automated dialing processes which are bewildering to many). “Face Up to Your Customers”
It would be a great integrated campaign and would challenge the banks where it would be most effective, through its customers.
Why is it that bank charges are unfair again?
Customers aren’t forced by the banks to exceed their agreed limits; is it not appropriate that they put in place a penalty to punish those who take their money without prior approval or asking?
