Good news from Sherborne in Dorset, where Liberal Democrat Matt Hall has gained a county council seat from the Conservatives.
Last week, some bloke from up north went to help his campaign:

The margin of victory was slim enough to show how critical it is to have a good polling day operation:
Sherborne Rural (Dorset) result:
LDEM: 49.6% (+15.1)
CON: 46.7% (+9.6)
LAB: 3.7% (+1.2)

This morning we await the result from Barking and Somersham in Mid Suffolk where our former Readers’ Editor, Mark Valladares, was the candidate.

Well done Matt.
As your leaflet distributor in Holwell, I am holding you to the bargain that you will now help us with our speeding problem in the village!
When you have a moment, please come round for a chat with our Speedwatch team over a cup of tea.
Best wishes,

Independent Gain From Conservative
Tory and Labour vote imploded from 2012. This is the first Tory loss since they gained the Vale of Clwyd in last year’s General Election.
Dyserth Community Council
Independent no1 258 39%
Independent No2 207 32%
Welsh Liberal Democrat 189 29%
Independent Hold
A thoroughly encouraging result.
Things a bit better this week, moving up even in 5th place. May be just one week and elections in favourable spots. We hope not.
CONGRATULATIONS MATT.
Mark,
Well done on a superb effort. Interesting that you got exactly the same number of votes, on half the turnout, as the candidate last year. The result shows there is all to play for next time with such a small margin between the top 3.
