The Liberal Democrats are quietly breaking all sorts of records at the moment. Membership is increasing, a million doors have been knocked on this year and yesterday, we passed a significant milestone – £500,000 has been raised from members and supporters, a record for this stage of any election campaign.
As we reported the other day, there’s a match funding offer on at the moment with a target of raising £300,000 by the end of today to support the election campaigns of our key candidates across the country. The party hopes to raise £600,000 in total simply from online donations. If you want to help out with this, you can donate here.
The new member and supporter database has been a very effective tool in turning this method of donation from one of the smallest to one of the biggest income streams by helping the team ask for the right amount at the right times. They seem to know what pushes my buttons, for sure. One picture of Tony Blair and I’m reaching for my credit card. I’m waiting for the email that reads:
Dear Caron,
Tony Blair just called. He said he isn’t even remotely bothered by the size of your donation. Caron, he’s laughing in your face.
You need to give us more to annoy him properly.
DONATE HERE.
It is an excellent operation run by Austin Rathe in LDHQ. We probably aren’t paying him enough given how much money he is bringing in, but we could probably show our appreciation by donating the price of a cupcake or a coffee to his Marathon training run after you have given money to the party. It is pay day for many of us, after all. Seriously, though, this is the sign of a party that is in a much healthier condition than the press would have us believe.

Obviously people with money to burn, almost literally…
“…Tony Blair just called. He said he isn’t even remotely bothered by the size of your donation. Caron, he’s laughing in your face.”
If The Guardian report is correct, Mr Blair was in receipt of a £43 Million payment from the Saudis for services rendered. So I imagine he really is not remotely bothered about anything that happens in UK politics.
So long as the hero of “New Labour” has some tyrannical regimes to suck up to he will continue to laugh all the way to The West Bank.
I would prefer to support my MP, and have, than support the central party. At least he has shown a degree of independence.
Well I hope you get the figure you are looking for you would be second on my list perhaps first if it was not for your stance on the EU still like your party better than
Good luck 2015
James …. I’m nearly 70 and don’t have ‘money to burn’.
This is the first time in my life I’ve made donations to a political party. Why now? Because the Lib Dems offer more hope for fair and stable government than the other parties. And if Christine Jardine could stop Salmond blustering his way into Parliament, it would make my election day!
I have donated consistently to the Party centrally, within my own constituency (where, unfortunately, the prospects are not at all bright and it will most likely be a Red-Blue-Kipper face-off) (ergo priority be to do whatever necessary to keep the latter as far away from winning as can possibly be done) and also regionally (where there is an excellent chance of one at least of the current MPs retaining their seat (and being fully entitled to do so after having worked tirelessly on behalf of his constituents). The more election stuff I hear, the more I know this is the only party really talking sense (e.g. Vince Cable on the “Daily Politics” today) (Allan – INCLUDING on Europe as the ONLY party which has consistently been in favour of the UK having a leading role in the EEC/EC/EU) and it would appear (from the information Caron gives above) that I am only one of very many. Look forward to the trend continuing/strengthening right up to May!
