This is the real Billy. The Purr Minister! Ah! What a cutie!
Fantastic news straight from Battersea Dogs and Cats home!:
The battle for the ballot is over and Battersea Dogs & Cats Home can now reveal that Billy, owned by Mid Dorset & North Poole MP Annette Brooke, has clawed his way to high office by securing a winning 23 percent of the vote in this year’s Battersea Purr Minister competition.
Will the news sink in for Billy, even though his owner is pulling the plug on politics? Billy’s manifursto focusing on ‘love and care’ and edu-CAT-ion for all, clearly struck a chord with the public, and Annette can be sure that she’s leaving Westminster in puu-rfect paws.
Billy’s proud owner Annette says: “I’m really thrilled that Billy has won, as I’m sure he will be, and he will be getting lots of extra treats! It has been a pleasure to be involved in this opportunity to promote rescue centres such as Battersea Dogs & Cats Home, who do such good work. We acquired Billy from a rescue centre in Dorset last July, and were so impressed with them. My family stay in touch, letting them know how Billy is getting on, and I would really encourage anyone looking for a new pet to rehome from a rescue.”
Westminster’s top cat Billy joins the ranks of Larry, the most famous cat in the land, and last year’s Purr Minister winner Kevin, owned by Sefton Central MP Bill Esterson. Billy was up against stiff competition from Archie, nominated by Stephen Hammond MP for Wimbledon, Tibbs was selected by Mark Spencer MP for Sherwood, Ripley was presented by Livingston MP Graeme Morrice, Mango was the feline of choice for Simon Kirby MP for Brighton Kemptown & Peacehaven, and Caroline Spelman MP for the Meriden Constituency put forward her royal cat Rigel.
Lindsey Quinlan, Battersea’s Head of Cattery, adds: “We’re sure Billy will enjoy being the feline face of politics with his new title of Purr Minister. It was a tight race but we’re really pleased to present this coveted Battersea award to him. We know the British public love their cats and this just shows that our politicians do too.”

and thus, the Internet ended.
I really don’t like the use of pets in political campaigning (Sorry, Annette!).
The most repulsive example around here is Romford MP Andrew Rosindell who publicises his bull terrier. The death of the previous dog was suspiciously announced two days before polling day.
Anyone remember Rosie’s rabbit that appeared in an SDP PPB some years ago. Hit an all time low in the genre.
I seem to remember a Chris Huhne leaflet with his cat too!
