Lords Parliamentary Party reshuffle – who’s who in the new Parliamentary session

Readers may have noticed over the past few days a few personal announcements as to what certain Peers will be doing now, so we thought that we’d better provide readers with a complete list. And, with thanks to Humphrey Amos from the Lords’ Whips Office, we can announce that our Lords Spokespeople are as follows:

Leader – Jeremy Purvis

Deputy Leaders – Kath Pinnock and Mike Storey

Chief Whip – Dave Goddard

Attorney General – Martin Thomas

Business and Industry – Chris Fox

Cabinet Office – Mark Pack

Culture, Media and Sport – Jane Bonham-Carter, Dominic Addington (Sport) and Liz Barker (Voluntary and Charity Sector)

Defence – Julie Smith

Education – Shaffaq Mohammed and Sue Garden (Higher and Further Education)

Energy and Net Zero – John Russell

Environment, Food and Rural Affairs – Olly Grender

Equalities – Meral Hussein-Ece and Paul Scriven (LGBT issues)

Foreign, Commonwealth and Development – Jeremy Purvis

Health and Social Care – Caroline Pidgeon and Claire Tyler (Mental Health)

Home Office – Dee Doocey (Policing), Mike German (Asylum and Immigration) and Sal Brinton (Victims)

Housing, Communities and Local Government – Kath Pinnock and Dorothy Thornhill (Housing)

Justice – Jonathan Marks, Mike German (Prison Reform and Rehabilitation) and Sal Brinton (Victims)

Northern Ireland – Alison Suttie

Science, Innovation and Technology – Tim Clement-Jones

Scotland – Malcolm Bruce

Transport – Olly Grender

Treasury – Susan Kramer

Wales – Chris Humphreys

Work and Pensions – Monroe Palmer

Supporting our Chief Whip will be Dominic Addington, Cathy Bakewell, Angie Harris, Chris Humphreys, Kath Pinnock, John Russell, Mike Storey, Alison Suttie and Dorothy Thornhill, whilst Don Foster (Justice and Home Affairs), Shas Sheehan (Environment and Climate Change) and Joan Walmsley (Childhood Vaccinations) will be busy in their roles as Chairs of Select Committees.

Elsewhere, Liz Barker, Alan Beith, Sue Garden and Ros Scott will be on Woolsack duty as Deputy Speakers, the latter sitting on the House of Lords Commission and the Restoration and Renewal Client Board.

Beyond Westminster, the Lords represent the Party at the following organisations:

  • NATO Assembly – Chris Fox
  • Council of Europe – Mike German, Sal Brinton (sub)
  • UK-EU Parliamentary Assembly – Sarah Ludford, Robin Teverson, Malcolm Bruce (sub)

And finally, John Alderdice is a Trade Envoy for Azerbaijan and Central Asia, whilst John Sharkey now represents the Liberal Democrats on the House of Lords Appointments Committee.
