At the Voice, we are always keen to support our parliamentarians in their fund raising activities, whether it’s giving up booze for a month like Alistair Carmichael did last year or scale an Ecuadorian volcano like Greg Mulholland did in May.
Michael Moore has announced that he and Borders Council Leader David Parker will be undertaking a 97 mile fundraising walk along the River Tweed at the end of August. From the Borders Telegraph:
In 2009, Michael and David walked the Four Abbeys Way to raise funds to support the Special Care Baby Unit of Borders General Hospital. That walk raised over £12,000 and was a distance of 70 miles completed over five days. This year’s challenge is 27 miles longer and it is hoped that they can once again raise a good amount of funding to support their chosen charities.
Speaking about the walk, Mr Moore said:“It was always our intention to do a second walk after the enjoyment of our first venture. It has taken some time to get our diaries co-ordinated, to allow us time and space to train and do the walk, but we are very excited at the prospect of raising funding for the Radio Borders Cash for Kids and the Tweed Valley Mountain Rescue Team. We are now in serious training and very much looking forward to winding our way down the Tweed from Scotland into England over the six days.”
