We’ve written about the issue of revenge porn extensively over the last few months, most recently covering the amendments introduced in the House of Lords which would make it illegal for abusive ex partners to upload intimate images to the internet without consent.
Yesterday, the Ministry of Justice launched a consultation on the issue, saying:
The Government is keen to understand more about the scale of this issue, whether incidents are being reported to the police or other authorities and, where they are, how these are being dealt with. This will allow us to understand whether more needs to be done to address the problem.
You don’t have long to do this – the consultation is open for less than 3 weeks. They need your responses by 7th September. If you have been affected by this, please respond as it will add weight to the case for the need for a change in the law.
Hannah Thompson, the Guildford Liberal Democrat who has been tirelessly campaigning on this issue after falling victim to it spoke last week to the BBC’s Women’s Hour about her experiences. She goes into some detail about what happened to her, the humiliating response she received from the social media site where the images were published and the inability of the Police to do anything to help her. You can listen to the whole interview here.
Hannah has also been made Liberal Youth’s Young Person of the Month for her courageous leadership of the campaign on this issue:
just opened an email to discover that I’m Liberal Youth’s young person of the month! haha #swag pic.twitter.com/HScFwzSknH

Liberal Democrat MP for Cambridge Julian Huppert and Baroness Olly Grender have been leading the Liberal Democrat calls for legislation in both Houses of Parliament. If you agree with them, sign up to the Liberal Democrat campaign here.
