From reading Lib Dem blogs like Alex’s and Will’s, you might think that there are a lot of Dr Who fans amongst the Liberal Democrats – and indeed, the Brigadier himself has been a leaflet deliverer for Lynne Featherstone.
However, I’ve been perusing the lists of what people have purchased through the party’s affinity deal with Amazon (the party doesn’t get to see individual orders, but we do get overall sales totals).
Amongst DVD purchases, the most popular TV shows have been:
1. West Wing
2. Sherlock Holmes
3. 24
4. Star Trek
5. Inspector Morse
Not a Doctor in sight.
(And a reminder about the Amazon deal – just follow this link or the link at the bottom of www.libdems.org.uk when ordering from Amazon and the party will earn a commission to help pay for our campaigning and other work – without you being charged anything extra).
PS I’ve got a new job. I’ve switched from working in the Campaigns Department to being “Head of Innovations” and we’re currently recruiting a new internet campaigns person to join us on the third floor in Cowley Street. Interviews are taking place this week.

One of the Romanas is a strong supporter of the our good Doctor in Oxford too!
I suspect us Dr Who fans are a bit more canny than to pay Amazon prices Mark.
Very good for books though. My recent purchase of Joe Trippi’s excellent book must have been worth at least a few pennies to the party š
And there is a Cyberman standing to be Chair of the English Party!
I’m changing jobs too – coz i work for Neil and I keep getting “must learn to like Dr Who” on my staff report… ;-))
The scary thing about Amazon is the way they target the advertising at you when you visit the web site – is real life merging with Minority Report???
With ian of course I have to put ‘must learn to like Sarah Jane Smith a little less’ š
Tesco are the same – they keep sending me vouchers for things I am just about to go and buy.
Spooky.
Amazon usually recommend me things I’ve already bought from elsewhere. Despite being a fanboy, I tend to spend very little money on Who stuff – whereas I have spent money on The West Wing and 24 this year.
One of the other UNIT actors has stood for the Referendum Party, UKIP and the Silent Majority Party (something of a misnomer as it was neither silent nor a majority). I’ve heard rumours he was a LibDem (PPC?) once too, but I’ve not found confirmation on a quick search this morning.
Watched the pyramids of mars the other night….
Was almost as good as the horror of Fang Rock the night before…..
Oh dear. I am sad. š
Genesis of the Daleks – that was my favorite – Talons of Weng Chiang is pretty good too!
I’ve never been able to get into The Horror of Fang Rock, despite its reputation. Pyramids of Mars is a classic, though, and The Talons of Weng-Chiang is, as I blogged recently, one of my all-time favourites.
Talons of Weng-Chiang is rather blinding…. as is the Face of Evil….(the arrival of Leela)……
….temporarily forgotten name of my favourite episode though…must go surf and find….
The awakening – The Malus really captured the imagination of 10 year old me…..
Goodness. I wouldn’t go seeking that out in a hurry if you’ve not seen it since (although it does have one good line in it).
Perhaps not, but I liked it at the time….
Got a couple more dvds to watch at home at the mo tho’, including the 5 doctors.
Did you know that WH Smith are doing the old skool dvds on BOGOF?
I think Will’s thinking of that chap from Brighton.
Big rasperies to Mark though.
The other UNIT actor who stood for us before going to Referendum etc. was Richard Franklin (Capt. Mike Yates). I think he stood for us in Westmorland & Lonsdale several elections ago.
Colin Baker has also been supportive in the past as has the Pertwee era producer Barry Letts.
