Having been tagged in this meme, which so far has featured Ann Winteron, Henry VIII and helicopters, I fear my contribution is rather dull: it’s the £200,000 the United Kingdom Passport Agency had to spend to make its old computer system millenium compliant because of big problems with its new one (remember the huge passport delays of summer 1999?). And in the interests of keeping the internet neat and tidy, I won’t tag anyone else 🙂

Hey Mark, there’s a good story here for you to write several consecutive blog posts about. No, hang on, it’s a Lib Dem . . .
“…because of big problems with managing the transition to the new one” that should have been. I was caught in that fiasco and did some investigating: there were very serious management failures in the Passport organisation; I’m convinced that the new computer system worked within its spec. (And no, I have no connection with the supplier, but I do at times work with a small trade association appalled with the current public administration organisations here.)
