The #GE2010 Golden Half-Dozen: pick of the Lib Dem blogs (9th April)

During the election campaign Lib Dem Voice is each day highlighting six blog-posts from the Lib Dem Blogs Aggregator which we think are well worth reading.

Here’s our pick from 8th April …

  • Stuart MacLennan: Why was a Labour candidate talking about “chavs”? (Jonathan Calder)
  • Protesting against the frankieboyleisation of society: “What is a Labour candidate – a Labour candidate – doing talking about “chavs”? Even in the post-Blair Labour Party, surely its candidates should have some vestigial sense of being on the side of the workers?”

  • Vote tactically for usssssss (Alix Mortimer)
  • Not enamoured of Adonis: “Get away from me, you loathsome, tragically corrupt little shits, and get your clammy, undead hands off of people’s votes. Don’t insult people by asking them to vote for you in the morning, and then driving your great big state juggernaut over some of their dearest values in the afternoon and assuming they won’t notice your cack-handed deception.”

  • How important is experience? (Tom King)
  • Anyone looking for a perfect blend of idealism and pragmatism? Then vote Clegg/Cable (but which is which?) – just don’t choose Labour: “There is no question that the current Labour cabinet is rather too full of experience, so much so that they resemble a herd of Eeyores dragging themselves unwillingly towards yet another finishing line.”

  • Fear and loathing on the UK campaign trail (Neil Stockley)
  • Hope or fear, reason or emotion – how will the public decide? “The part that fear plays in the parties’ messaging is not hard to see.”

  • Reason to Vote Lib Dem 127: Bankers Backing Dave (Stephen Glenn)
  • By their friends shall ye know them: “Maybe it is a sign that the Conservatives are softest on banks, softest on the problems with banks.”

  • Lad’s Army (John Beacroft-Mitchell)
  • On volunteer conscription: “The direction of resources must be determined at community level otherwise such a scheme will end up as just a Tory election gimmick which I suspect it is anyway.”
