Tim Farron MP writes… Leap for victory

My Grandpa used to say to me, particularly if I was on my way out the door heading to the shops, “By the way, if they’re giving anything away for free make sure you ask for two!”

Who wouldn’t accept a free gift if it was offered to them on a plate? Well, thanks to the vagaries of the global clock, this Wednesday 29th February we’re being given a free day.

This is an additional 24 precious hours of campaigning time ahead of the elections that are looming on the horizon in May.

Let’s make the most of it, let’s use every hour!

Tomorrow you could spend a couple of hours surveying – and then call back on all of those people who said they vote Lib Dem and sign them up; or print and then deliver some street letters that you weren’t already planning to do; or telephone 50 of your definites and ask them to become deliverers or to put up a stakeboard; or if you haven’t got elections this year, you could go to your nearest place that has elections and go and give them some extra help.

Why not email me at [email protected] and tell me what you will do to make best use of Leap Day?

For my part I’ll be out on the campaign trail in London working my way from Lewisham to Wimbledon and Bermondsey to Brent doing all I can to get as many Lib Dems as possible elected to the Greater London Authority. I’ll then be getting the train back to Cumbria to do some extra campaigning there.

If you live in London, (or live elsewhere but are able to make some phonecalls) get in touch with the GLA and Mayoral campaign.

Or you can contact your local party and help to campaign in your own area.

So please join me on this extra campaign day, either out and about in London, or doing that little bit extra in your own patch and let’s ‘Leap for Victory’!

* Tim Farron is Liberal Democrat Spokesperson on Agriculture and MP for Westmorland and Lonsdale.
