Remember that awkward moment with Ming and the Arctic Monkeys? This is not a problem we’re going to have with Tim Farron. In fact, he’s more likely to introduce us to bands we’ve never heard of. When he took his dog Jasper fell running the other night, he was listening to Everything Everything.

NME have picked up on an interview he did with The Big Issue North in which he talked about his musical tastes:
“We were terrible, but I loved being in a band,” Farron said. “I’m a pop music anorak. I still buy a lot of music. I don’t do a lot of downloading – I still think it’s right to own a physical entity.”
“When you get to my age, I’m sure I’m paddling in a shallower pool when it comes to listening to new things, but I’m particularly enjoying Everything Everything at the moment. I love Wild Beasts – not just because they’re from Kendal. And I’m eagerly awaiting the new Swim Deep album. I think they’re great.”
Farron added: “Dennis Healey said that politicians should have a hinterland: pop music is mine”.

Good stuff. Tim’s concluding remark is very true and is also what the electorate wants to see (“real people”). The contrast between, say, Margaret Thatcher whose life was effectively over the minute she left Downing Street and John Major who had his cricket etc to pursue and who looks better every time he pops up on TV is striking.
Love the Wild Beasts
