Yesterday marked just 6 weeks to go until the most important poll of our lives, the Fairer Votes referendum on May 5th.
Since we kicked off the Liberal Democrat Yes! To Fairer Votes campaign in Manchester last Friday there’s been a flurry of activity to really get momentum going. Everyone is getting involved including our former Parliamentary Candidates, MPs and we’ve even roped all the MPs’ staff in on the action!
Up and down the country we’re starting to see some great examples of Yes! To Fairer Votes campaigning activity. In Kidderminster the local group have been running a Yes! To Fairer Votes street stall – talking to passersby and explaining to them why Fairer Votes is so important. The Yes! Team in Cardiff are travelling to Barry Island today to write Yes! To Fairer Votes in the sand.
My highlight for the week is happening in London THIS WEEKEND when the Wandsworth group will be hijacking the famous Oxford vs. Cambridge Boat Race for the Yes! Campaign – so if you are in London get yourself down there and help them paint the race purple!
So what else can you do this week?
- Posters! I want to give a big thank you to those of you who have been putting posters up, if you haven’t had the chance yet it would be tremendously helpful. You can find some on the Lib Dem website.
- Add a twibbon to your Facebook profile to show your support and start the discussion about fairer votes with your friends.
- Retweet Yes! Campaign tweets like mine that give others information on how to help out.
- Find out what your local party is doing to support the Yes! campaign, and you guessed it, get involved!
We’re looking for the most original, creative and high profile stunts that activists are getting involved with. Therefore we want you to send pictures of your campaign activity to Lib Dem Voice [email [email protected] ] and each Friday I’ll post my highlight of the week with a prize in May for the best overall event!

“Yesterday marked just 6 weeks to go until the most important poll of our lives…”
I know politicians find it hard to resist hype, but that really is a ridiculous thing to say.
There will of course be people who will be on the march today, and then delivering leaflets for Fair Votes tomorrow.
Commenting reminder: Please remember to respect our moderation policy which basically asks people to be polite, be on topic and be honest (ie don’t pretend to be more than one person or to be someone you are not).
As you can see from other comments published on the site, wide-ranging and robust debate is fine (including comments critical of the party or the site). However, we do ask for little bit of civility – and the chances are you’ll find that makes your points a little more effective at persuading others anyway!
We have the policy about off-topic comments so that people can choose to take part in the discussions which interest them, rather than finding the same discussions shoe-horned into threads on posts on a wide range of other topics.
If there’s a topic that is relevant to our site and hasn’t been covered in a post then raising it in a thread is fine. However, what goes too far – for example – is raising the same topic in several threads in quick succession.
More details are at https://www.libdemvoice.org/comment-policy which you can also get to via the reminder link which always appears next to the box for posting a new comment.
I’ve just seen this reference to the activities of the Wandsworth group at the boat race see http://drricharddavis.co.uk/blog/2011/03/28/first-past-the-post-is-fine-for-a-boat-race/ for a commentary (and pics) of the events.
And any Yes! campaigners in Wandsworth please sign up at http://www.wandsworthyes.co.uk to find out how you can get involved
