From Facebook, here is Tim’s message for Holocaust Memorial Day:
My reflections on this year's Holocaust Memorial Day. This is a day for everyone to remember the six million Jews murdered in the Holocaust, and the millions of people killed by Nazi Persecution and in subsequent genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia, and Darfur. The years theme of ‘Don’t Stand By’ highlights the choice we have in not tolerating unacceptable behaviour. It is vital that we remember and reflect upon these horrors of the past, and honour those who survived.

A perennially necessary reminder by Tim of how profound and important it is to never forget that particular horror that gives rise to this day . There s no better example to show it , than wretched Jean Marie Le Pen describing the Holocaust as “a detail from history “! Disowned on this , by his own daughter, yet a man who led a party in recent elections doing well to say the least . There are many apologists for anti semitism in the anti Israel lobby , the two must not be conflated . Very good relating of that nightmare to the sufferings today , from Tim , who deserves more coverage from our broadcasters.
For some reason my earlier post has been withdrawn. Did it strike a raw nerve? Let me try again. In remembering the suffering of the Jewish people (not forgetting gays, gypsies etc) at the hands of a brutal totalitarian regime, let’s not forget the suffering of the Palestinians whose fate has so far been largely determined by the actions of the descendants of those holocaust victims. Two wrongs don’t make a right.
Tomorrow I have been asked to speak at a school about the meaning of The Holocaust today and why it is so important for us all to learn the lessons from history.
I will not though being linking The Holocaust and the attempt by the Nazis and their sympathises to eradicate Jewry from the face of Europe with the appalling situation between Israel and Palestine.
The architects of The Holocaust intended that every living Jew be cleansed from the face of Europe, initially by migration, and then by their physical annihilation, and to compare this with what may well be the abhorrent policies of the State of Israel, is simply wrong, and diminishes what actually happened between 1933-1945.
We must divorce the policies, procedures and practices of the State of Israel with that of being Jewish. The two are no more linked than the policies procedures and practices of ISIS/Daesh has and Islam.
A genuine resolution within the Middle east is not going to be aided by the ‘side taking’ that people indulge in. This merely feeds into the myths and fears that are perpetuated by both sides and inflames greater hostility.
