Top of the Blogs: The Golden Dozen #58

Welcome to the 58th of our weekly round-ups from the Lib Dem blogosphere, featuring the seven most popular stories according to click-throughs from the Aggregator (23rd-30th March), together with a quintet hand-picked by Lib Dem blog readers you might otherwise have missed.

Let’s get straight down to it, in descending order of popularity:

1. Grasping at straws on Peter Black AM’s blog.
“I welcome any moves towards a fairer voting system but I am not prepared to believe it until I see it.” Indeed… Lib Dems have been here before.

2. Most vacuous leaflet ever on Duncan Borrowman’s blog.
Watford Tories: going for the minimalist approach.

3. Nick Clegg launches Liberal Youth on Lib Dem Voice.
Calling all folk under 30. (Not that I’m bitter.)

4. The most stupid of gaffes – Giving the Green Party free publicity
on Nich Starling’s Norfolk Blogger blog.
Did Julian H sin against the creed of Rennardism?

5. Exclusive guest post: green party on the open letter to nick clegg mp
on Julian H’s Orange By Name blog.
A Green GLA has his say… but Alix Mortimer says it so much better… see 8., below.

6. Liberal Youth launches
on James Graham’s Quaequam Blog! blog.
Some friendly advice from an LYDS alumnus.

7. Turns out Hillary wasn’t lying on Gavin Whenman’s Gaily Gigest blog.
The former First Lady dodges sniper bullets with style (and a little mis-speaking).

And now to the five slots we reserve under the category ‘well worth reading even if they didn’t get the most clicks this week’. Thanks to those who submitted this week’s nominations. Remember, all you have to do is drop me a line at [email protected], highlighting the best Lib Dem blog postings from the past week (providing the web-link and author, and any tagline comment you care to have published).

8. Exclusive: Greens were Labour’s second choice on Alix Mortimer’s The Republic of Mortimer blog.
Detailing the oh-so-many-ways in which the Greens’ pact with Labour reflects oh-so-badly on them. (Nominated by Alex Foster, of this parish).

9. Are we making the most of blogging? by Lynne Featherstone MP on Lib Dem Voice.
The blog article about blogging that sparked a hundred blog articles. (Nominated by Alasdair Wood).

10. Why do we hold the old Liberal Party in such high esteem?
on Alasdair W’s Alasdair’s Lib Dem blog.
Nominated with some gusto by Alix Mortimer: “As a clueless medievalist I found this a very useful gallop-through, which I’ll now set about supplementing with Wikipedia. Somehow I could never summon the vigour to start learning party history the sensible way, so thank you, Alasdair. There are also some excellent comments about the nature of history an’ all that jazz.”

11. Petition to get rid of Glenda Jackson and Frank Dobson on Ed Fordham’s Just 474 Votes to Win blog.
A local newspaper prints a cartoon which is both funny and has a point: a remarkable enough occurrence fully to deserve mention.

12. Iain Dale’s Totally Neutral Politics on Julian H’s Orange By Name blog.
Alix Mortimer: “I nominate this post for services to valiantly taking the piss out of absolutely everybody involved and treating current serious political issues in a utterly facetious manner thereby causing me to go to the toilet with laughter.”

And that’s it for another week… Happy blogging!
