Top of the Blogs: The Golden Dozen #80

Welcome to the 80th of our weekly round-ups from the Lib Dem blogosphere, featuring the seven most popular stories according to click-throughs from the Aggregator (24th-30th August), together with a hand-picked quintet you might otherwise have missed. (And my thanks to LDV colleagues Ryan Cullen and Alex Foster for minding the shop during my so-well-earned hols).

How about starting with the most popular blog-posting, and we work our way down? Here goes:

1. The common touch on Peter Black AM’s blog.
Dave shows how real he can keep it… Not very.

2. Jo Anglezarke – I Admit My Guilt (but don’t go as far as an apology) on Jennie Rigg’s The Yorksher Gob blog.
Another outbreak of Lib Dem blog-wars.

3. Cameron defects to the Lib Dems on Irfan Ahmed’s blog.
I think this wins this week’s ‘most blatant attempt to break into the Golden Dozen with an outrageous headline’ award.

4. Boris johnson shames an entire country on the wit and wisdom blog.
Well, maybe, but I’m afraid I laughed out loud at “Ping pong’s coming home”.

5. The perils of taking Facebook too seriously
on Mark Valladares’ Liberal Bureacracy blog.
Another episode of blog-wars – though if you want to see real, full-throttle flaming try this thread on James Graham’s blog.

6. What Facilities can the Lib Dems give Bloggers at Conference? on Irfan Ahmed’s blog.
The answer is free wifi access.

7. Total Politics list of top 50 Lib Dem blogs
published on Lib Dem Voice.
Self-congratulatory pats on the back all round.

And now to the five slots we reserve under the category ‘well worth reading even if they didn’t get the most clicks this week’. Remember, if you do want to highlight a Lib Dem blog article published in the past seven days – your own, or someone else’s – all you have to do is drop me a line at [email protected] (providing the web-link and author, and any tagline comment you care to have published).

8. Politicians today have narrower experience than their predecessors? Rubbish. on Jeremy Hargreaves’ blog.
De-bunking the myth that the rise of the professional politician is a recent phenomenon.

9. The real point of Liberal Democrat Conference on Anders Hanson’s blog.
Here’s one of them: “To give the opportunity for Liberal Democrat members to practice their skills at “acting normally” when they realise that they are in the background as a well-known Liberal Democrat or journalist is being interviewed on television.”

10. Telling the Bones story on Neil Stockley’s blog.
Is it too late for the Party’s Reform Commission to sell its wares to the membership?

11. Actually, there IS something else… on Alix Mortimer’s The People’s Republic of Mortimer blog.
Yes, it’s the party’s obsession with hard-working/ordinary families: “Talking about families rather than individuals just sits very, very badly with the whole concept of liberalism, a concept innately concerned with the individual.”

12. More people died in road accidents in 1934 than 2007 on Jonathan Calder’s Liberal England blog.
Strange, but true.

That’s it for this week. Happy blogging.

    6. What Facilities can the Lib Dems give Bloggers at Conference? on Irfan Ahmed’s blog.

On the basis of much of the pathetic and uerile stuff here (with honourable exceptions such as my Pendle friend Irfan)I hope the answer is “not much and preferably nowt”.
