Top of the Blogs: The Golden Dozen #85

Welcome to the 85th of our weekly round-ups from the Lib Dem blogosphere, featuring the seven most popular stories according to click-throughs from the Aggregator (28th September – 4th October), together with a hand-picked quintet you might otherwise have missed.

How about starting with the most popular blog-posting, and we work our way down? Here goes:

1. Ex-Tory Staffer: ‘David Cameron’s liberal lie’ on Paul Walter´s Liberal Burblings blog.
After over two years working for the Tories, Ashish Prashar recognises the truth: “when Cameron claimed he is a ‘Liberal Conservative’, like many others I fell for it, and I was so wrong.”

2. Time for a Lib Dem reshuffle on Duncan Borrowman’s blog.
Anyone fancy a game of Fantasy Shadow Cabinet?

3. “Do you know as much about economics as Vince Cable, George?” on Sara Bedford’s Always win when you’re singing blog.
Savour Evan Davis’s words on BBC Radio 4’s Today Programme: “It sounds to me like I should vote for Vince Cable.”

4. Lembit’s nuclear option on James Graham’s Quaequam Blog!
How the blogosphere briefly lit up at the prospect of Lembit on Celebrity Big Brother. (Lembit, it should be stressed, denied he’d ever accepted Channel 4’s invitation).

5. Top of the Blogs: The Golden Dozen #84 on Lib Dem Voice.
Yes, the Golden Dozen makes it into the Golden Dozen once again… not that the Lib Dem blogosphere is at all inward-looking, or anything.

6. The race for the Lib Dem presidency on Lib Dem Voice.
A few weeks left to decide who gets your vote.

7. Girlfriend says a Tory PPC is not fit to be an MP on Irfan Ahmed’s blog.
Revenge is a dish best served cold, and all that.

And now to the five slots we reserve under the category ‘well worth reading even if they didn’t get the most clicks this week’. Remember, if you do want to highlight a Lib Dem blog article published in the past seven days – your own, or someone else’s – all you have to do is drop me a line at [email protected] (providing the web-link and author, and any tagline comment you care to have published). My thanks to those who nominated this week’s postings.

8. When Does ‘Local’ Mean ‘National’? on Alex Wilcock’s Love and Liberty blog.
On the Tories’ and SNP’s determination to abolish local decision-making and accountability.

9. That conference speech in full…(again, again) on Joe Otten’s Dave, Nice But Knave blog.
Mr Cameron’s Alternative Party Leader speech.

10. Do Lib Dems Assume too much? on Jennie Rigg’s Yorksher Gob blog.
Anyone know where the party’s comitment to equality is mentioned on the Lib Dem website?

11. Bones is not about reducing democracy in the party on Jeremy Hargreaves’ blog.
Conference may be over, that doesn’t mean the rows about the Bones Commission have gone away.

12. Will the unthinkable happen on the internet? by Mark Pack on Lib Dem Voice.
What would be the effect if Google or Facebook went the same way as Lehman’s or Washington Mutual?

That’s it for this week. Happy blogging.
