A really powerful speech addressed to empy seats. Also the paper he look into all the time brought back nostalgic memories of Comrade Brezhnev (I lived there and then!)
It’s hard to advise Tim on something he doesn’t know already, so I will just emphasise that he needs to build some national level excitement. Nearly the whole strategy shouldn’t be based on community politics.
Arrange a personal interview, perhaps with Lib Dem Voice that we can all share that allows him to speak his mind rather than simply official party policies.
Politics is a difficult business, because we tend to want something for nothing, but at least a personal interview could allow people to get to know the real Tim. It could be done with his top-team too – a diverse one at that.
He says a fair bit of good stuff, but he needs to slow down and use less words. He isn’t getting his personality across and even his own MP’s were looking a little bored.
A great speech which can be used in leaflets and press releases within constituencies. Proud to be a liberal. Had to be hurried to get in what he wanted. Of course the house was empty but he wasnt talking to opposition MPs he was talking to the broader public.
I love the idea for a personal interview, Eddie. We should make it happen…

I think this is probably in part a product of him (and his seven colleagues) getting relatively few opportunities to make himself heard in the Commons these days – when he does get called he wants to get the very most out of it that he can, as it might be weeks before he’s called again.
I liked what Tim Farron said here, particularly about schools and teachers. He sounds passionate (almost angry) and sincere.
It’s a crying shame that people are not listening to him or his party. It is also a shame that the party, as viewed through the prism of Lib Dem Voice (which is probably more important than ever given the lack of other coverage the party receives), seems to be more hung up about its internal problems with diversity than it is about the world outside.
Where do you get the empty seats from Igor – we had a huge turnout. The most first timers ever apparently, as a bonus
Tim Farron was on the Andrew Marr show on BBC2 on 24/4/2016.
There was also an interview with President Obama whom Boris Johnson has called a “hypocrite”. This undiplomatic language makes Boris unsuitable to be Prime Minister.
