Today the Voice received the following email from a voter in Bristol, which we want to share with our readers:
I have always voted Labour (for 52 years), not blindly but considering the situation carefully over the years. But this time, I am voting Lib Dem, because they are a breath of fresh air compared to the others.
My local contact has been refreshing, both in the literature coming through my letterbox and in the media. There is an elememt of positiveness and hope in the message of the Lib Dems, yes times will be hard. But I do not want the dour negative message of no hope from Brown particularly, and Cameron. I am fed up with immigration, surveillance, green belt destruction, student fees, death tax, broadband tax, SATs, University fees etc etc.
Both the Labour and Conservatives do not listen to the people, but push dogma endlessly. They are now smiling, kissing babies, and pretending to listen but after the election that will be it.
Thank you for your support, Peter.

“I am fed up with immigration …”
Some mistake, surely?
No, they’re saying that they’re irritated by the way Labour and the Tories are always talking about how awful things are and how much worse they’re going to be, such as all the stuff on that list.
It’s something I’ve noticed too. There’s a lot of talk about policies and priorities, but when you get right down to it, both of them are campaigning on fear and trying to make people afraid. Even Cameron’s endless obsession over NI rates is framed as “don’t vote for the other guy, he’s going to screw up the economy again”. The Lib Dem message is, in contrast, mostly a list of ways to make things better.
I was just in the process of writing a similar letter, however I didn’t know where to send it as it’s not possible to e-mail Brown himself.
Are you sure he isn’t just saying he’s fed up with the things that follow the words “I’m fed up with …”?
Do you know which constituency in Bristol he is from? 😉 I’m hearing that kind of thing a lot in Bristol South.
Hi canvassed a lady this morning in her late 80s – has voted Lavour in every election at every level …………….. until now. She told me she HAS voted Lib Dem (by Post) for the sake of her Grand children & Great grand children, as only we offer real hope and change for the future.
Lavour – should of couse read Labour!
I too have voted labour ever since I first voted ( 29 years). This year I too am voting for lib/dems because of policy. I considered voting Green but in my consituency ( vauxhall) I think it’s a wasted vote. The lib/dems came second to labour in the last election , labour won by 7,873, so I am hoping lots of labour voters follow suit and this reverse so that lib/dems win with labour 2nd. The conservatives only got 5,048 …so little chance of them winning there.
I think the lib/dems have the most chance to make a change but the policies don’t go far enough for me.
i was wavering between lib/dem and green and these are the Green party policies i wish were included in lib/dem policy . I hope Nick Clegg et al read this ! as no one has been to my door to ask my thoughts!
Also can anyone tell me WHY these are not Lib /dem policy …or why they might not become so ? These are:
DEFENCE:Ensure that the British military is only used in self defence, or as a last resort, within an international UN-led policing force
Improve the military to promote human security, by specialising in crisis prevention, emergency relief and conflict resolution
Seek binding global agreements against all weapons of mass destruction
End all export subsidies and increase controls on UK arms sales
I PERSONALLY WOULD ADD SCRAP TRIDENT!
ELECTORAL REFORM: Voting age reduced to 16 years
EDUCATION: Revision of the National Curriculum
Abolition of the system of SATs and league tables
Grammar and public schools will have the charitable status removed and become state funded for maximum accessibility
Education should include a celebration and recognition of religious diversity and spirituality.( I am a Nichiren Daishonin buddhist and am personally anti the ‘christian’ bias of many schools. It should be presented as just one of many belief options.)
Oppostion of City Academies and Trust Schools
Investment to low and zero-carbon sectors of the economy
ENVIRONMENT:Support of renewable sources, including wind and micro-solar generation
Reduction of waste by making waste reduction, re-use and recycling easier
Improve public transport and rail to cut emissions from vehicles
HEALTH:Increased investment in preventable ill-health
Return cleaners and other privatised areas to the NHS team
Promotion of cycling and walking to school, and healthy school meals
I also think the national minimum wage should be increased and no one in work should be worse off than if they stayed on benefits. Also with experience of ‘Job Centre Plus’ via my partner…they need a complete over haul ! They really are USELESS and giving practical advice and support for getting people into jobs or training etc. My experience is they are a bunch of inept ‘paper -pushers’ who do everything in their power to STOP people claiming benefit through beaurocracy and red tape. A kind of ‘mentoring’ scheme would work better. I can say I think the current arrangements are not helping the unemployed …just telling them to get on with it themselves.
The only way forward is to vote liberal- they only speek the truth. it’s about time for the big change!
Welcome on board, whatever route you’ve taken to get here. Now go out and persuade lots of your friends!
