How extraordinary that the leadership deliberately go out to get bad publicity by seeking rows not just with the conference members but with their own MPs and the Policy Committee, simply by trying to act in an illiberal way and show “strong leadership” at the behest of the fools who dominate the national media.

But – extraordinary though it may be – they are not the first and I don’t suppose they will be the last. Good leadership is all about understanding the party you are leading and that appears to be not as full as it ought to be.
