YourThurrock.com talks to PPC Geoff Williams

An email arrives from the editor of YourThurrock.com pointing us to a YouTube interview they’ve done with local PPC Geoff Williams (South Basildon and East Thurrock):

They’ve previously interviewed another local Liberal Democrat PPC Carys Davies, which you can read about here.

You can find out more about both of them and how to support their campaigns on the Basildon Liberal Democrats website.

  • This seat appears not to be natural Labour territory and thus be the sort of seat they only win when they have a Commons majority, whereas the Tories can win it easily and still be in opposition. If the Lib Dems are ever to displace one of the parties locally from second place and so have a chance of winning the seat, it is likely to be at Labour’s expense. Consequently, SB&ET Lib Dems should be targeting Labour wards and Labour voters. However, in Thurrock the reverse is true so it is Tory votes that need to be targeted. This approach also fits with preventing another Commons majority resulting from a minority of the national popular vote.

My earliest political memory – aged about 10, waiting for tellers to return, crossing off votes for Geoff on a giant table with D’s & P’s on. (’88 or was it ’89?) They started us off early in Basildon! Best of luck for the forthcoming election to all concerned.

Except they won it in 1983 when they quite definately didn’t win a Commons majority. And 79 and 92.

This seems as flawed an argument as the rest of your theories.
