Not a bad week. We seem to be doing especially well in West Devon with a surprisingly large turnout for a cold wet dark December night.
As regular readers of these local by-election results know I post at the end of each month a summary of the most recent 50 by-elections in England & Wales. Although I don’t normally post these summaries every week I do calculate the results after each date on which by-elections take place for my own amusement. Reform UK have consistently led in these results since 12th June this year. Reform reached a peak of 30.45% share of the vote on 24th July. They also reached a maximum lead of 12.33% (over Labour) on the same date.
Since then their lead has narrowed and following this weeks by-elections Reform are no longer at the top. The current position is Liberal Democrats 25.54%, Reform UK 25.53%, Conservatives 18.29%, Labour 10.64%, Greens 10.43%.
Admittedly our lead is narrow – it equates to just fifteen votes separating us and Reform and it could easily be reversed in coming weeks. Nevertheless, it is clear that Reform are not doing as well as they were a few months ago.
It is also worth noting that Labour are at an all-time low and are only just ahead of the Green party.
Thanks to Kevin Hawkins for his useful work.
TheReform decline is parallel to their fall in The Polls if a little lower.
We, as usual get about twice the share in real Votes as in The Polls while Labour get about half.
Thanks to Kevin Hawkins for his useful work.
Seconded.
Is it correct to say that Reform have a slight advantage over us in terms of vote share in they may be fighting more seats?
@Tristan Ward
You are correct. Reform contested 49 out of the last 50 by-elections, whereas we contested only 44. We averaged 525 votes for each by-election we contested whereas Reform got 471,
Furthermore the Greens got an average of 286 votes in the 33 by-elections they contested compared with Labour who average just 224 votes in the 43 by-elections they contested.
Callum Robertson in Watford, not Robinson.
