Are you tuning in tonight for BBC1’s flagship political discussion show (10.35 pm, and online)? If so, you’ll have the pleasure of seeing Jo Swinson, Ed Davey’s deputy at foreign affairs and Lib Dem MP for East Dunbartonshire, whose talents many of you would like to see put to full use in the party’s shadow cabinet.
In fact there’s a real Scottish flavour to the show, which is coming to us from, erm, Peterborough, as Jo will be alongside the SNP leader and First Minister of Scotland Alex Salmond, and the editor of the Financial Times, Lionel Barber, who cut his journalistic teeth on The Scotsman.
Sadly we have been deprived the joy of seeing Labour’s Phil Woollas by his boss, that kill-joy of a home secretary Jacqui Smith, after Phil went off-piste in an interview and talked about the Government imposing caps on migration. Progressive Labour members must be so very proud of him and the voters he’s trying to attract. Instead Lord (Roy) Hattersley will do battle with the Tories’ shadow communities minister, the egregious Baroness (Sayeeda) Warsi.
After a couple of programmes dominated by the financial crisis engulfing the world economy, perhaps QT will find itself on more familiar terrain tonight, discussing Tory funding scandals instead? Feel free to add your subtitles to the debate in the comments section below.

Nice to see Jo Swinson stand firm against Warsi’s ludicrous moralising, and say that Catholic schools should have to provide information about contraception.

Sigh… is it just me who’s pretty bored of hearing the same old QT discussion of the financial crisis?
Jo Swinson was quite impressive. Hattersley and Barber were too, and as I expected Alex Salmond pulled out his ‘I’ll relate myself to the audience’ trick. Warsi was awful.
Most of the suggestions on Iain Dale’s blog are for old white men, apart from the repeated mentions of Konnie Huq. I don’t know if they’re doing it in jest, but she does have a first in economics from Cambridge, so she’d probably be up to the job. Though her sister being a Labour MEP / MP candidate might rule her out…
Hattersley was superb. Stunning performance, bring him back. Salmond put in a solid performance too.
I could only bear about 2 minutes of the show’s immigration “debate” before turning over.
