  • Do you think he’s seen the writing on the wall in Cornwall?

  • “You mean the one that syas ‘Lib Dems win all 6 seats’?”

  • I think the very first ‘writing on the wall’ (for King Belshazzar) translated as “you have been weighed in the scales and found wanting; your kingdom will be divided”.

Some may think this is a particularly apt description of the Lib Dems’ reign in Cornwall…

  • That’s one less homophobic MP on the green benches.

Murray, the Tory candidate in Breeds area, is a fiesty woman and is getting plenty points and sorry to say she deserves sucess – local, lives there, councillor, salt of earth and so on. As for the Tory women elsewhere they are Londoners with second homes which we will drive home to the death. Sarah Newton in Truro is a toffee nosed londoner and has a £700,000 second home. She has only just returned to cornwall after 25 years away. We understand her daddy has dozens of second homes south of falmouth. Fodder for the cornish voters when the time comes and housing becomes a painful cost. Caroline Righton
is hardly here and has no roots for Cornwall except tenuous business and media failures in falmouth.
The N cornwalls torys’ mummy in law lives in mid cornwall.
The tories hardly exist in cornwall and are in-fighting so come on and give it a good go- all is not lost.

I wasn’t very happy that he kept his front bench job while voting as he did on section 28 but I think “Homophobic” is a bit strong.

  • And he voted against adoption. I don’t think homophobic is too strong at all, and I’m glad to see the back of him. Totally concur with the comment that the next Lib Dem selected in his seat will hopefully actually be a liberal.

  • As I recall, he also voted against equal age of consent. IMHO no, homophobic isn’t too strong, so let’s bring on not just another Lib Dem, but a Liberal one this time.

I wrote to CK at the time saying he should have been sacked from the front bench over section 28 if he didn’t resign. I just think Homophobic is over used as a word. I may be wrong on this occassion.

  • Mindstar, that’s of course true, but liberalism means an attitude which allows other peole to make their own choices as long as they don’t violate the rights of other people to make their own choices, and clearly Breed was against allowing homosexuals to make their own choices.

Probably his religious views and his position as a lay preacher have affected his voting patterns, but though liberalism is for religious freedom, a true liberal can distinguish his political and religious views, and support a legal right for people to make their own choices, even if he wouldn’t approve those choices from his religious point of view.

  • Glad the awful Breed is going. We don’t want any more religious bigots representing our party. I detest the way these believers in imaginary friends bring their superstitious crap into politics. No more @rsewipes please.

“Probably his religious views and his position as a lay preacher have affected his voting patterns”

Alan Beith and Roger Roberts seem to manage.
