Ed Davey spoke movingly in the Commons today.
We are mourning a profound loss.
The Queen was a formidable monarch, who faithfully served our country for all her life and was loved the world over. pic.twitter.com/LvR5toRrDk

I do agree Ed did well. But….
In the many, many speeches that lie ahead over the next few days, I would like to hear *someone* say something along the lines of this:
“There are many in our country who are not supporters of the monarchy, and I think it’s important that we recognise that. The majority of those people, it seems, are content in this moment to join with the rest of us in mourning the passing of a remarkable woman. This indeed is an example of how the Queen brought people together. But I do think it is important to recognise that section of our population, and to acknowledge their feelings, and not to give the impression that they are excluded from this moment, or their emotions overlooked. We all mourn together. That is how Her Majesty would have wanted it.”
I really would like to hear *someone* make that point. And it would be great if it was a LibDem.
Some of us are strong and sincere backers of our system of Constitutuonal Monarchy, as a part of our belief in our version of Liberal Democracy.
As a Constitutional Monarchist and Liberal Democrat, I am grateful for the efforts of our late Queen and and new King , as I am glad for the contributions of our excellent Parliamentary leaders.
Thanks Sir Ed, Sir Keir, et al, who show respect.
