Lib Dems mark IDAHOBIT 2025 – we support you, we stand with you

The sun is shining, it’s Brussels Pride (where Lib Dem Women chair Donna Harris is today),  Doctor Who Eurovision (the Interstellar Song Contest featuring Rylan) and Actual Eurovision from Basel and it’s IDAHOBIT, the International Day against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia. Could a day be any more fabulous?

The LGBT community needs a moment of respite. Life for them, particularly our trans colleagues, is fairly unremittingly awful at the moment. I don’t know a trans person who isn’t scared about doing something as fundamental as going to the loo when they are out.  The UK is sliding down the international rankings as a good place for LGBT+ people to live at an alarming rate.

It’s not long after 10 as I write this, and already there have been a fair few good things from Liberal Democrats. Way too much to fit into one post, so there will be a few throughout the day.

First up, is Ed Davey’s video message which sends an unequivocal message to the LGBT+ community: the Liberal Democrats will never stop fighting to build a country where you are truly free to be who you are.

LGBT+ Lib Dems said:

Today is IDAHoBiT, the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia & Transphobia.

We need to do better on this: as a society, as a Party, and as individuals. We have a great record, but we can’t rest on our laurels. We’re in the fight to do better, and we won’t let up.

Coming up later, we’ll have our newest MSP Jamie Greene handing the SNP Government its backside on its failure end conversion practices as it promised it would, our Women and Equalities Spokesperson Christine Jardine’s message for IDAHOBIT and great developments for and by Lib Dem Councillors and Council groups.

  • This is a good start, but the sooner Ed corrects his statement about the Supreme Court judgement himself, the better. Hopefully he’ll take the opportunity to do that between now and the start of Pride month, because it’s really undermined us as a party.

I wouldn’t want to tell trans people how they should feel, but if the government was fighting a crusade to prevent me from being allowed to use the toilet and a party leader refrained from saying that they opposed this or would undo it if they got into government, but then had the gall to claim that they would never stop fighting for my rights, then I would be extremely angry!
