Excellent news from Barnet, where Roger Tichborne – who has run an excellent blog about local issues and the council – has decided to join the Liberal Democrats and will be standing in Mill Hill.
The local newspaper reports:
Roger Tichborne, who writes the BarnetEye blog as RogT, is one of the three candidates named to fight the Mill Hill ward seats, along with standing councillor Jeremy Davies and businesswoman and Times Series blogger Kim Checchetto.
Mr Tichborne was a member of the Labour party for more than 20 years, but said recent policy decisions by the government had caused him to change allegiances.
The Mill Hill resident said: “I found I just could not agree with things they were doing, like scrapping the 10p tax rate and the idea to privatise the Post Office.
“The decision to run for the Lib Dems came only in the last month. I met with (Cllr) Jack Cohen the leader and talked to him about it
“So many people have asked me to stand for council from all sides of the spectrum I feel I would be letting them down if I didn’t.”

We used to hold Mill Hill I believe. Former London region Chair, Sean Hooker was a councillor there until about 4 years ago.
We still hold two of the three seats in Mill Hill and are hoping to get the other one back from the Tories next year.
We’re going to hold three again in May. Of that I have no doubt. I’ve had a fantastic reponse to the news, mostly from people who don’t vote Lib Dem. The challenge is to kick on in the other target wards
Are you sure it’s the real Roger Tichborne, and not some impostor?

That really made me smile. I am beginning to wonder whether it is possible that you might not be a real herbert!
