Scottish Women Lib Dems have launched their new blog today with a post from Katy Gordon entitled Are You Born to Be Wild?:
’ve only been Scottish Convenor of SWLD since 2nd July and I want you all to be wild: wild about the appallingly low number of Lib Dem women MPs, wild about dropping to 1 female MSP in May but wild with enthusiasm to achieve our 3 objectives before another century goes by!
I hope you will use this site as a kind of Lib Dem marketplace, where we can share ideas about how to get more women MPs & MSPs, have heated debates on issues such as quotas and job sharing for politicians and where we can consider what difference women can make in policy terms.
I also intend to use this site as a noticeboard for SWLD activities. We have a ‘grand plan’ and it starts here with the relaunch of SWLD and the creation of this site.

I look at the blog’s banner and find myself asking: why – and to whom – are they surrendering?
That kind of publicity shot can’t be helping the number of female MSPs and MPs.
They’re not surrendering, they’re holding up an invisible SWLD.
Jeez guys – you’re sooo predictable.
A terrific initiative – it takes real guts to sustain such passion and I really look forward to being inspired by this blog!
Also, can I put in an order for the 2012 WiLD WOMEN calendar?
I don’t wish to sound like I’m belittling this or anthing but I am curious as to why the new blogs creators chose to make sothing so specific when (to my knowlage) there isn’t a uk women libdems blog or a scottish libidems blog.
I suppose you could turn it into blog for Scottish men and women plus Engligh and Welsh women which would be a bit odd though there’s no law against it.
Out of five Lib Dem MSPs there is one woman, out of 11 Scottish MPs just one is a woman. In terms of balance between male and female elected representatives in parliament for the main parties the Lib Dems are the most unequal. Quite remarkable for a so called progressive party. It gets worse when you consider the number of ethnic minority Scottish Lib Dem MPs or MSPs (zero).
Worse than Labour, worse than the Tories, worse than the SNP. Frankly this should shame you.
It does g, it does.
Hence the applause for this initiative.
Oh, and your opinion would carry a lot more weight if you had the guts to put your name to it.
What DO they think they look like waving their arms in the air like that? What is the rationale behind that pose? And the twee, failed attempt at humour of “wild women”, etc. Normal, sane people outside politics will just think that it looks bonkers. Most corporate bodies give serious thought to what their image to be; this just looks stupid. Why does everyone imagine that they have the ability to be creative at a professional level? As Sir Peter Hall wrote in his diary, “Very few people should be allowed to use their imaginations. Mostly what is wanted is the obvious, but very well done.”
Kirsten de Keyser,
Oh, and your opinion would carry a lot more weight if you had the guts to put your name to it.
because putting my name to a comment would make the Lib Dems less discriminatory?
I think the photo is genius! Elspeth looks like a Celtic warrior priestess invoking some terrible spirit
