#TeamAlistair vs #TeamSheila Go Sober update – Carmichael behind but almost £3k pledged so far

Last week we brought you news of the challenge between Secretary of State for Scotland Alistair Carmichael and one of his best friends, party legend Sheila Ritchie to see who could raise most money for Macmillan Cancer Support by going sober for October.

In the last 7 days, Mrs Ritchie has extended her already considerable lead. With ten days to go, can she pull off a memorable victory for the grassroots against the Establishment?

The current scores are as follows:

Alistair Carmichael:

Money raised: £1020

Position in UK: 22 (out of over 31,000 participants)

Sheila Ritchie:

Money raised: £1889

National ranking: 7 (and top Scot)

On her Facebook page, she said:

Thanks to everyone who is making this worthwhile. I’m sure my liver is pleased with the rest, but the replacement in my intake seems to be chocolate, which is less good….

Dunfermline Carmichael pv gotv phone bankMr Carmichael, on the other hand, has found other ways to amuse himself. You are more than welcome to join him over the next four days as Susan Leslie’s campaign for  Dunfermline.

What is particularly good is that between the two of them they have managed to raise nearly £3000 so far for Macmillan. Most of us will know somebody who has been helped by that excellent organisation.

The Voice still reckons that they could get to £5000 before the end of the month with a bit of effort. Of course, we are staying scrupulously neutral in all of this. It’s up to readers to decide whether they are ro0ting for #TeamAlistair or #TeamSheila.

You can donate to Alistair here and Sheila here.

Why not show some solidarity with them and give them the cost of a pint, or a glass of wine?
