Top of the Blogs: The Golden Dozen #76

Welcome to the 76th of our weekly round-ups from the Lib Dem blogosphere, featuring the seven most popular stories according to click-throughs from the Aggregator (27th July – 2nd August), together with a hand-picked quintet you might otherwise have missed.

Let’s get straight down to it, in traditional descending order:

1. A question of balance on Peter Black AM’s blog.
On the curious case of the former Archbishop who wants the News of the Screws to be in charge of public morality.

2. The PPC Files (1): the 3 worst things about being a Lib Dem parliamentary candidate on Lib Dem Voice.
A dozen PPCs tell it like it is. (For balance, their 3 positive things are here).

3. Those 50 Labour-held target seats in full on Jonathan Calder’s Liberal England blog.
Journey with us, friends, to the promised land…

4. The PPC Files (2): what do you wish you’d known before you became a Lib Dem parliamentary candidate? on Lib Dem Voice.
Sound advice for aspiring Lib Dem A-listers.

5. Nick, time för a small reshuffle? on Martin Land’s New Model Army blog.
This post has, rather remarkably, made it into the Golden Dozen for a second week running. Martin Land: the Lib Dem blogosphere’s answer to Bryan Adams.

6. The definitive top 10 on Andrew Tate’s One Hour Ahead blog.
I’ve nothing to say about this post. *sulks*

7. Liberator on the Bones Commission: “Clegg has just effected a power grab” on Lib Dem Voice.
Nick gets the Liberator treatment.

And now to the five slots we reserve under the category ‘well worth reading even if they didn’t get the most clicks this week’. Remember, if you do want to highlight a Lib Dem blog article published in the past seven days – your own, or someone else’s – all you have to do is drop me a line at [email protected] (providing the web-link and author, and any tagline comment you care to have published).

8. An old warrior passes away on Baroness Ros Scott’s Because Baronesses are people too blog.
Lord Russell-Johnston RIP.

9. At last, the Liberal Democrats are getting framed
on Neil Stockley’s blog.
Nick Clegg proves he’s such a cunning linguist.

10. My inner disgusted colonel
on Alix Mortimer’s The People’s Republic of Mortimer.
Who says liberals can’t organise a piss-up on a beach?

11. National Orgasm Day – a Celebratory Poll on Jennie Rig’s The Yorksher Gob blog.
Unlike Lembit this day comes but once a year. A late entry for the Golden Dozen. When I want to celebrate I put a poll up, too. Oh, make up your own single entendre then.

12. What did I do at the weekend? on Pink Dog’s blog.
Nominated by Dominic Mathon: “There’s much speculation about the identity of P-Doggy’s cameraman but I can claim a cast-iron alibi, being nearly 7,000 miles away (err, and not having anything like the requisite imagination or talent). Still, if you watch carefully, the clues are there …”

And that’s it from me for a couple of weeks, as I search for a country where it doesn’t rain non-stop in August. My LDV colleague Ryan Cullen will be presenting the next two Golden Dozens. But watch out next week for an extra special Top of the Blogs – yes, it’s our annual Golden Ton, as LDV counts down the top 100 blog postings from the past year.

Meanwhile, don’t forget to file your nominations for the 2008 Lib Dem Blog of the Year awards: details here.

Oh, and finally, finally – if you feel so inclined you have until 15th August to nominate Lib Dem Voice (and lots of other Lib Dem blogs, too) for Iain Dale’s Total Politics top blogs list.

That should keep you all busy – see you again when I’m tanned. And happy blogging.

I risk derision here, I know, but who is Bryan Adams?
