Lib Dem Voice has been polling party members signed up to our discussion forum on the very live issue of the Lib Dems’ response to the Browne Report. Individual links to all signed-up party members have been emailed to the 1,200+ members of the Forum. So far, over 500 responses have been received.
If you have not received your email please do contact Ryan Cullen at [email protected] — and if you have yet to join the forums and wish to take part you can sign up here. The survey will remain live until 6pm today, so if you would like your views to be counted, do please respond by then. Results will be published in full on Lib Dem Voice at the weekend.

I am quite concerned that a poll, if the result comes out against our democratically chosen policy, will be used by some to justify the un-consulted policy change.
@Henry.
Some Lib Dem Voice surveys have been unfortunately worded in the past. This one seems reasonably balanced . You are quite correct though that us internet ‘geeks’ should not be allowed to dictate party policy . that is what conference shoudl do …even if the current leadership treats conference decisions as a joke.
Henry/John Fraser, what reason have you for thinking that those who take part in the survey will have very different views from Party members in general ? Previous surveys have been in line with Party opinion, why shouldnt this one be ?
@Henry
your point is extremely valid.
The real issue is not whether party members are happy with the potential outcome. It is more a case of how general voters and newly acquired sympathisers view outcomes.
I , for one , am a recent libdem sympathiser who was sickened by Blair’s faux Tory politics. Like many Labour voters I saw the Libdem party as a new home where credible policy and honour might be found. The coalition , and the likely outcome of the fees issue has demostrated one fact to me ( and ,I suspect, myriad ‘labour voters) . It seems my voting future must remain that of a tactical voter who votes labour purely to revent Tory and libdems gaining power.
The simplest fact is , why should I alter almost four decades of voting preference so I can be totally betrayed by a new libdem party. I may as well just stay as a tactical Labour party vote and be a little bit betrayed by them.
Depressing , but makes sense…and the recent polls seem to suggest that many agree with both of us.
Hi Paul, I certainly didn’t mean to suggest that this one wouldn’t be, which is why I used the conditional ‘if’, and I think John was simply answering my concern rather than implying it himself,. Apologies if any confusion were caused.
Though I am not sure that “Previous surveys have been in line with Party opinion” is necessarily accurate – I can’t remember all surveys, but I think some have had results which went against party opinion, as any sample would…
