Lib Dem Bloggers Unconference – sign up now

Some weeks ago we asked for your initial views about a “Lib Dem internetty meet up thing.”

Some good ideas emerged from the comments, and I am pleased to announce that after weeks of work for m’colleague Helen Duffett, we are able to set up the first of these meetings.

Some of the details are a little sketchy, but here’s what we know for sure:

Venue: Edinburgh – Scottish Lib Dem HQ, 4 Clifton Terrace EH12 5DR. Map here.

Date: Saturday 21 November 2009

Time: 10am-4pm

Facilities: Wireless network will be available, meeting room and (tbc) a smaller breakout room

Transport: Haymarket Station opposite, good bus links, parking not so good on the doorstep but is available within a few minutes’ walk. Edinburgh airport to the west of the city.

At least four of us so far are planning on making a weekend of it, and we are lining up fun politico things to do for the rest of our time on the Sunday.

To attend, you must register via this thread in our Forum

We very much hope this event will be the first of many, and next year (General Election willing) we hope to explore the other offers of accommodation made in Reading and Nottingham.

So much for my request “If you could avoid 21 November (Unlock Democracy’s AGM) it would be much appreciated.” Tt.

    Edin-what?

Which part of London is that in?

James, I did note your request, but there were lots of factors in setting the date.

Really pleased that you’re so keen to participate, and hope to see you at the next one :-)

The problem for me is that it’s impossible to get there and back in a day – and I live on the East Coast Main Line – it takes longer than it takes to get to Paris. And it costs more than it costs to get to Paris – £74 St Neots – Paris, £95 St Neots – Edinburgh. I’d like to go to a future event though. How about Paris, he asks, only partly in jest….?

Martin – only partly in jest, we’ve been talking about Brussels, would that do?

Brussels would be good along with Paris!

Why not? Seriously, it’s cheaper for me just to scuttle down to Kings Cross and despite the Euro, I know places in Bruxelles where it’s good and reasonable to eat (I lived there for seven years) and there are hotels which are reasonable too for one night if we need to stay (40-50 Euros – try finding that in Bournemourh!), if only we can find a good venue with Wi-Fi. Perhaps our MEP’s could help?

I realize that we just had our actual conference in the southiest of the south, but I’m not sure that a sensible response to that is to have an unconference in the northiest of the north :P

(That said, I’ve just looked up planes from Bristol and you can fly for under £50 Thurs-Mon, flight time 1h — beats 9-12h on the trains!)

Sanbikinoraion – Edinburgh’s not exactly the northierst of the north, now is it!

No, you’re right, civilization ends around about Harrogate :)
