Nick Clegg’s second ‘town hall’ meeting…

… has been written up by the local newspaper here.

Amongst other issues, Nick talked about Prime Minister’s Questions – a topic recently raised on Lib Dem Voice by both MP Lynne Featherstone and peer Paul Tyler – and had this to say:

“Prime Minister’s Question Time is absurd,” he said. “The whole thing is designed to flatter the Prime Minister and the leader of the Conservatives.

“I much prefer meetings like these. The House of Commons has a certain rude logic to it but it’s a pathetic way to run a democracy, with grown men and women shouting at each other.

“I have said right from the beginning I would do as many of these meetings as I can. It’s much more rewarding. I hear from real people about their real everyday concerns.”

There is nothing new about. It is just like any ordinary big family and the parliament represents the real picture of the nation as a big family.

Deepak. Your idea of a family must be very different from mine.

My extended family is far more representative of the country than the House of Commons, by gender and by race. We are arguementative, but we don’t behave like a bunch of overgrown schoolboys. We have debates which actually make some sense, instead of some silly point scoring questions and answers, and we actually show some respect for one another.

PMQ’s just give politics a bad name.

Clegg’s town hall meeting in Edinburgh was quite good. It certainly helps him put some desperately needed distance between him and Cameron.

I totally agree with you Mr Church. It reflects the current picture of the society and shows how much the country has changed under 10 years of the Labour Government. It also reflect that it is time for a change and people have lost the respect for the government. This is the reason why I have nominated the website of Ms Lynne Featherstone as the best web Blog.

    And I rest my case.
