Minister of State for Care and Support Norman Lamb MP picked up the prize for the “Best Use of Evidence” at the Political Studies Association Annual Awards, dubbed the “Oscars of Westminster”. These were handed out at a dinner which took place last night at Church House, Westminster.
The MP for North Norfolk was presented with the award for his work on mental health by former Mayor of London Ken Livingstone in front of a packed audience of high-profile academics, politicians, political campaigners and journalists.
The judging panel, which included top political academics alongside Peter Kellner of YouGov, BBC’s Justin Webb and Jackie Ashley of The Guardian said:
Norman Lamb was the unanimous winner of this award for his outstanding work on mental health. His work with the Royal College of Nursing, Skills for Health and Skills for Care to develop new guidance for professionals, as well as workforce training guidelines, must also be strongly commended.
The judges also praised Norman for his launch of Positive and Safe, a two-year programme to end the deliberate use of face-down restraint in all health and care settings.

Ken Livingstone giving out an award for the best use of evidence an interesting choice. Good for Norman though he has been a very effective Minister.
He is a Liberal Democrat so the public will not be informed. The Media only report negative or nothing from the Lib/Dems. Its been a four and half year “conditioning” exercise which has worked.
Norman Lamb has been simply outstanding. Without his vision and commitment, and that of other Lib Dem MPs such as Paul Burstow, mental health would be stuck where it was before 2010. Parity of esteem – equality of treatment for patents with mental health problems – is on the agenda and in sight. The next step is to get rid of the divide between physical and mental health.
