Ed Davey statement regarding The Princess of Wales
Responding to the Princess of Wales’ video statement, Liberal Democrat Leader Ed Davey MP said:
What sad news. My thoughts and prayers are with the Princess of Wales tonight.
Liberal Democrats join the whole country in wishing her a speedy recovery and hope the Royal Family will be given space and privacy at this difficult time.
“The system failed Kaylea, we cannot allow it to happen again”- Mid and West Wales MS Jane Dodds
This week in the Senedd, the Mid and West Wales MS Jane Dodds urged the Welsh Government to learn from the tragic case of Kaylea Titford and improve the child safeguarding system here in Wales.
The disabled 16-year-old passed away in 2020 after being found in conditions that were described as “unsuitable for an animal”.
Kalyea’s parents were both charged with manslaughter by gross negligence and are currently serving a combined total of 18 years behind bars.
Commenting, Mid and West Wales Jane Dodds MS said:
Kaylea Titford was described as a wonderful, fun, determined and headstrong person who was cruelly taken away from us far too soon.
Kaylea’s parents have rightfully been held responsible for her death, but we cannot forget the fact that she was allowed to slip away by a flawed system.
The system failed Kaylea, we cannot allow it to happen again.
Poor communication between agencies and a lack of clarity around responsibility have created cracks where they shouldn’t have existed.
We must learn from the mistakes made with Kaylea and other vulnerable people like her and strive towards creating a system that works for all.
Tory support in freefall – Rob offers London liberal choice
In the latest London election poll by Savanta, Liberal Democrat support has doubled since the last election while Conservative support has collapsed.
Responding to the latest London Poll, Lib Dem Mayoral candidate Rob Blackie said:
It’s clear that support for the Conservatives in London is in free fall. The Tory candidate will not win – but Sadiq Khan doesn’t deserve a free run.
The Mayor’s record of delivery has been appalling. After eight years in charge, the Metropolitan Police is in crisis.
I’m determined to Fix The Met and give Londoners a liberal choice in this election.
Scottish Liberal Democrats respond to publication of Fair Fares Review
Responding to the publication of the Scottish Government’s Fair Fares Review, Scottish Liberal Democrat spokesperson for rural affairs and connectivity Beatrice Wishart MSP said:
The Scottish Government promised this review would deliver solutions. Instead, four transport secretaries and almost three years later, it offers precious little improvement to our public transport system.
The review is silent on key issues, such as shared cabins and the related concessionary vouchers issue on the Northern Isles route, the scrapping of seasonal fares for island residents on Serco NorthLink ferries, or new options for rail season tickets.
I have repeatedly called on ministers to extend the under-22 bus pass to inter-island ferries, and it’s disappointing that, even now, they have only just decided to ‘develop the proposal.’ Many of those who could have benefited have missed out as a result of this needless delay.
Scottish Liberal Democrats want to see fares cut, new two/three day a week season tickets on trains, reliable ferries and communities put in charge of when and where buses go. It’s clear this SNP/Green government has a very long road to travel before it gets there.
One Comment
I felt, as many have, a very human reaction to Princess Catherine, think this is yet another example of how obsession with the royal family can be damaging to the real people involved and wish her well with her recovery.
The idea that she’s a “Princess of Wales” is ludicrous. It’s impossible to have a truly united kingdom while that title can be owned given the historical context and any political party that believes in devolution and/or a United Kingdom shouldn’t be using it.
