  • I’m afraid I disagree with Douglas MacDonald and his idea of turning Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen into city-states. I believe a better model is to have a greater number of genuinely local councils, rather than the current 32, and then providing certain services like transport using joint boards. Education, by the way, should be provided as a national service to ensure equity of provision and one set of policies rather than 32 sets of policies as at present.
