  • Trump’s victory shows the danger of non-US political supporters interfering in US politics – a danger also highlighted by Trump’s campaign lodging an official complaint about Labour supporters doing so.

Indeed, that was an egregious error of judgment by Labour, to add to a growing catalogue. A competent PM or Foreign Secretary would have blocked it. Now, they have much work to do to rebuild bridges.

While Starmer and Lammy’s statements signify a shift in tone, observers are questioning whether these gestures are enough to heal the rift. The fallout from Labour’s prior rhetoric could hinder efforts to re-establish trust and partnership.

Trump’s advisors have hinted that while the US remains committed to its relationship with the UK, it will closely watch Labour’s actions and policies to gauge sincerity.

A reconciliatory path may demand more than verbal overtures. Policy alignments on issues such as defense spending, trade agreements, and shared intelligence could become critical to restoring rapport.

  • @Paul R – the US parties do exactly the same – remember the Republicans and their ‘dodgy dossier’ on Blair put together for John Major?

Fact is, only a dictator or a country which is insecure in its democracy opposes people from other countries expressing views on or helping with elections within its borders. The reason is quite simple – they fear people from outside exposing them, because they are much harder to control.

Storm in a teacup. There’s been two-way traffic for decades with the typical tie-up of Con-Rep, Lab-Dem.

    Load of hypocritical nonsense.
