That’s a quote from a magazine as it endorsed the less experienced candidate, who came from Illinois, in a presidential election – but not this one.

My nineteenth century US history is a bit shaky, so until I saw the link I thought this referred to that other wonderful Illinois statesman, Adlai Stevenson. If he had become President in 1953 or 1957, the world might be very much better than it is today. (Not thst Lincoln did a bad job…)
