Kelly committee: MPs should only rent
As the BBC reports:
It is understood the Kelly committee, which has been reviewing MPs’ expenses, will recommend that MPs will only be able to rent second homes in future.
It is also expected to recommend that MPs will not be able to employ family members in the future.
Karadzic trial continues without Karadzic
It looks like Radovan Karadzic’s attempts to delay his trial aren’t being too successful, with the judge warning that the trial may go on without him.
UN prosecutors have unveiled transcripts of intercepted telephone conversations where Mr Karadzic threatened a “real bloodbath” if Bosnian Muslims resisted his plans for a ethically pure Serb state covering 70 per cent of the former Yugoslavia.
The 64-year old Bosnian Serb, who was captured last year on a bus in Belgrade, after over a decade on the run, was not in the dock to hear the case against him after refusing to show up in a protest against the speed of the proceedings against him.
2 Must-Read Blog Posts
What are other Liberal Democrat bloggers saying? Here’s are two posts that have caught the eye from the Liberal Democrat Blogs aggregator:
- When most of us have an IT problem, we might curse, swear and then phone the helpdesk (then curse and swear some more). Not so David Amess, Conservative MP for Southend West. As Peter Welch tells us, Amess went for the parliamentary question approach. Could this set a new trend, with Cameron demanding Brown fix his email problems in PMQs?
- Amid a flurry of quality posting, Sara Bedford spots an apparent lack in knowledge of the birds and the bees at the Daily Mail.
the Mail clearly believes that the occurrence and timing of a pregnancy is down to women alone … they seem to believe that we can all achieve an immaculate conception without divine intervention.
Though the column isn’t called 2×3, I can’t resist using my weekly slot to plug Alter Ego, the blog of John Ault, who’s been making some great posts recently.
Spotted any other great posts in the last day from blogs that aren’t on the aggregator? Do post up a comment sharing them with us all.

I was looking for a political forum to discuss, rant, propose ideas and possible solutions so I thought at least the Liberals might foster such a thing as open discussion.
Nope! Lots of talk about “inclusion”, “reaching out”,”promoting discussion” etc. but no place to actually do any of it for real unless you’re a club member. Seems you fear free speech like the rest of them…
Well, we’ve effectively got two forums. One is the one you’re commenting on, where there’s plenty of ranting and proposing ideas, and there’s also the members-only forum. There are abstract discussion of ideas threads on the members-only forum, but the main reason it’s private is because it often gets used to talk about campaigning tactics, the inside track on particular events etc. There’s not a party in the land that discusses that stuff in public. If anyone wants to write and propose an idea, they tend more often to do it out here as far as I can see.
Come to think of it, a series of opinion pieces from undecided, frustrated voters looking to knock ideas around would probably be very interesting. There are a couple of regular commenters along these lines who lurk hereabouts already, and use the open threads to pose questions/ideas.
