I wrote recently of a very emotional and heartwarming presentation at Conference in Brighton by Citizens UK who came along to thank the Liberal Democrats for what we had done to end child detention for immigration purposes. Nick Clegg and Sarah Teather both spoke in response. To cheer you up on an autumnal Friday afternoon, here is the whole thing in video. Enjoy.

But you haven’t ended Child Detention for immigration purposes, have you?
Must any rational nation, group or organisation be appealed to before halting insane and barbaric act of detaining children for whatsoever reasons , the West is fighting child abuse and yet they keep deportating children parent without leaving them behind and in some case s detaining children. And systematically subjecting them to poverty in their country while at the same. Ratified the children act under UN
UK someday would be sued by the total number of children. Who they have separated their homes for immigration reasons. No need to beg them to stop children abuse in the name of immigration
2,165 children not locked up in detention centres like Yarl’s Wood. A reason to be proud.

As discussed on the other thread, there is no longer any child detention for immigration purposes. There is only requirement to stay in pre-departure accommodation.
The facts that falsify the assertion that “we have ended child detention for immigration purposes” claim.

Please, please stop saying you have ended something when the Home Office keeps statistics to prove you haven’t. Why not take credit for reducing the numbers, that is something to be proud of?

“Please, please stop saying you have ended something …”
You need to address that to Citizens UK, g. They were the ones saying it and saying thank you to the Lib Dems for it.
