The Telegraph has reported:

The emails, which made a number of unfounded, innuendo-laden suggestions about the private lives of David Cameron, George Osborne and other Conservative MPs, came into the possession of Paul Staines, who writes the Guido Fawkes political blog…

The prospect of publication alarmed ministers, who feared that they would be accused of orchestrating a smear campaign against senior Tory figures. Some of the emails made lurid claims about Mr Cameron, the Tory leader, and Mr Osborne, the shadow chancellor.

Daily Telegraph, 6 March 2009: “Hemlines rise during economic downturns”.

But perhaps it is neither up nor down?

Daily Telegraph, 5 February 2009: “the relationship between fashion and the economy is often more subtly complex than that”.

Never let it be said the Daily Telegraph doesn’t cover all the angles.

How The Telegraph misreported today’s YouGov poll findings on immigration

The Daily Telegraph today has its regular monthly YouGov poll. They’ve headlined their report:

Immigration is top issue for both Labour and Tory voters, YouGov poll shows

They go on to say:

A Daily Telegraph/YouGov survey shows that it is the top concern that people want an incoming Conservative government to deal with.

Problem is, that isn’t really what the poll says.

LDV readers say: BBC not justified in banning Carol Thatcher

Last week, in the wake of the whipped-up hysteria surrounding Carol Thatcher being banned by the BBC from The One Show for using the term ‘golliwog’, LDV asked our readers if you thought the corporation was justified in its actions.

Here’s how you voted:

Yes, the BBC was justified – 44% (116 votes)
No, the BBC wasn’t justified – 52% (139)
Don’t know – 4% (11)
Total Votes: 266. Poll ran: 5th-10th February 2009

So, a bare majority of you think the BBC over-reacted to Carol Thatcher’s use of racially-loaded language.

Last week, an opinion poll supposedly showing relatively low levels of public belief in Darwin’s theory of evolution did the media rounds. Typical was this write-up from the Daily Telegraph:
