Fighting for Britain’s soul and bursting the Westminster bubble

Take a moment and imagine at the next General Election, the closing polls come in.

That ping comes through on your phone, the announcement comes up on the TV, the person next to you turns and says “Reform is winning….the exit polls look like tomorrow we’ll have Nigel Farage as our Prime Minister…”.

Then, over the next few years a Reform government takes away the rights and freedoms of millions up and down our country in a toxic wave of populism.

We know sadly the polls show this is very possible but we know it’s not inevitable.

Candidates for Lib Dem Vice-President revealed

Nominations have closed for the Vice President of the party with responsibility for working with ethnic minority communities. You can read the list here.

This election follows the resignation of Isabelle Parasram for work reasons.

The candidates are:

Amna Ahmad

Roderick Lynch

Tahir Maher

Julliet Makhapila

Rabi Martins

Marisha Ray

There will be some hustings, although no dates have been announced yet.

The ballot will run from 12th November to 10th December, with the count and declaration on 13th December.

Conference proposal to reform the role of party Vice-President

During our Spring Conference, this Friday (19th March, 2021), I hope you’ll join the evening debate on my Motion, F9, which seeks some reforms to my role as Party Vice President.

The role was created as a result of The Alderdice Review which called for a senior party figure to be given the authority to further the party’s work on diversity and, specifically, in relation to ethnic minority communities.

The Lib Dem Campaign for Race Equality championed this call and, together with the then Party President, Sal Brinton and the Federal Board, ensured that it came to fruition.

I was first elected to this role in 2019 and was elected again in 2020. The electorate was the Federal Board. One of the major reforms to my role is my call for it to be elected by the wider party membership.
