Delayed news from Derby: Labour and the fake quotes

I missed this story before May’s local elections, but it is not exactly every day that someone gets accused by both a radio station and a local newspaper of making up quotes from them. The person in question is Labour Councillor Alan Graves from Derby. This is what the media have had to say about Alan Graves:

2,000 [Labour] leaflets are to be reprinted because they include a made-up quote from a Ram FM journalist (Ram FM)

and

A Labour councillor is reprinting leaflets which contained comments purporting to be from an Evening Telegraph reporter.

Councillor Alan Graves, a candidate in the May 1 elections, has delivered leaflets with a quote praising him which it is stated is from someone from the paper.

The Evening Telegraph would like to make clear that is does not express any political preference.

Mr Graves said that the leaflets were being reprinted. (Derby Evening Telegraph)

  • I seem to recall that the LibDems found themselves in exactly the same position in a recent by-election when they had to pull a leaflet because they presented quotes by themselves as those of the local newspaper which launched a ferocious front page splash about their underhand behaviour.

Yet again the LibDems obsession with negative attacks on other parties is exposed as the hypocrisy it is.

The day Mark posts something about LibDem policy will be a rare one. It’s all about “ooh look at what some individual in another party has done – obviously the whole party is at it”.

If that is your tactic Mark it is not very liberal – applying the actions of an individual to the group they belong to – and not very clever since the logic of your attacks is that your own party must be equally guilty since it has been done by yourselves.

Since the by-election was ran by Rennard and not some local campaign it says far more about the LibDems as a party.

    Byeee!

  • “Nice to see I’ve got under your skin”

A very interesting line. Is that an admission of your prime reason for being active in politics (really world changing that one) or projecting what your true feelings are about my post.

It’s also noteworthy that you haven’t addressed the substantive about fake quotes being used by the national party in a by-election campaign.
