My keyboard brings cheery news for Conservative MP Alan Duncan. He can now vary his day calling for the expulsion of Michael Howard and other Conservatives by also calling for Labour to drum this candidate out of their party, along with this one, this one, Alan Milburn MP and Julie Morgan MP.
Their sin? They’ve all used that “straight choice” phrase which Mr Duncan claims is homphobic.
You can also have a pop at the SNP for using the phrase too – must all be a bunch of homophobes too, right? Though in fairness you better also have a word with your colleagues in Torridge & West Devon too as they have a liking for that s phrase too. (And let’s just draw a veil over Iain Duncan Smith and his choice of words).
Now I’m sure that Mr Duncan isn’t hypocritical at all or knows what double standads mean, so I am 100% confident that even as I type Mr Duncan is exercising every ounce of influence to drum Michael Howard and others out of the Conservatives for their use of such phrases themselves.
And on that note, I think we can let this matter rest.

Just a small style critique Mark – I think these should probably be posted as updates to a single post/thread rather than taking up so much front-page real estate! People may want to talk about other topics as well… 😛

Doesn’t this whole “straight choice” Alan Duncan thing seem to be taking on more and more of the traits of a witch hunt?
It’s surely a sad reflection on the current neurosis within the Conservative Party leadership regarding their past record on gay rights, that they feel the only way to prove their commitment to what’s left of the gay rights agenda is to go on witch hunts looking for ostensible “homophobes”.
Isn’t it about time someone told Mr Duncan (preferably on air, for full effect) to sort out his own party before he goes around accusing members of Labour and the Lib Dems – the two parties with records they can be proud of on the issue of gay rights – of being homophobic.
