LibLink: of Tebbit, c*nts and Clegg

Another great blog post from former Tory MP Jerry Hayes over at Think Politics.

Jerry touches on the way the Conservative blue rinse brigade have been a little left behind

It will be some time before the Colonel and Mrs Mads who run the coffee mornings and shepherd’s pie evenings in the Shires will fully come to terms with it all

Then pops up with a rather nice Norman Tebbit anecdote

”You, you little cu*t. I saw you on tv last night asking the government to spend more on pensioners and the Health Service”.

And finishes it off with some remarkably kind words for the Deputy PM

Nick Clegg approving the removal of the loan to Forgemasters, right next door to his constituency…showed a level of political courage and example, I did not think possible from any minister.

Norman Tebbit is a conviction politician. It’s just a shame his convictions are deranged.

I think that’s one of Bernard’s irregular verbs:

    I’m a conviction politician.
    You’re an idealogue.
Norman Tebbit is a raging fascist.

So Nick is annoying Norman Tebbit – that’s another thing to add to the list of Lib Dem achievements in government.

Classic. Norman Tebbit is such an awful little man but at least Jerry’s excellent post bring him to life!. Wonderfully entertaining.

Isn’t he somewhere in the region of six feet six inches?

No, I think he is actually about average height or a little below. I saw him once in the flesh and was surprised that he was not much taller (same with John Smith who was notably below average height).

There are lots of people in Britain who are like Norman Tebbit.

    Unfortunately.

Jerry did something Norman could not – he beat Stan Newens (Labour) to win Harlow in 1983, something Norman had failed to do in 1970. (In 1970 Harlow was part of the Epping constituency, which Stan Newens held from 1964 until it was split in 1974, then continued as MP for Harlow until 1983).

I voted for Stan in 1970, there being no Liberal candidate here that year! Anything rather than vote Tebbit :-)
