UPDATED: Saving the best for last?

Northampton only started counting at 4pm this afternoon, but the count is looking good for the Liberal Democrats who may well just snatch control of the council latter this evening.

Update: A win, a pulpable win! Nine seats up, taking control. Tories down five. Makes Northampton North a good prospect for the next general election.

We’ve not really switched from news reporting to analysis mode yet I think.

As Sherlock Holmes said analysing before you have the important facts is a fatal mistake.

  • I have loved nearly all of it – And Featherstone exposed for a postage bill of £22 000 in her local paper!

  • Just to confirm we took 4 seats from the Conservatives and 5 from Labour in Northampton to win control for the first time. In Northampton North constituency we now hold 9 out of 10 wards – and we came a good second in the only one Labour held onto. We got 54% of the vote in Northampton North constituency and 40% across the Borough as a whole.

  • Paul Newman, the vice chair of Islington Tories who refers to the people of my ward in Islington as ‘bestially stupid’ fame, has once again scored a home goal!
Forget Cameron’s ‘hug a hoody’ touchy feely compassionate Conservatism, read his solutions to gun crime, immigration and single mothers:

  • Saving the best until last? Yes, quite agree: Conservatives gain Warwick Council and strengthen hold on Breckland.

  • It's a one-horse race 10th May '07 - 3:44pm

Newmania, report her to the Standards Board.

  • I am sure though that Libs are down overall after the elction? arent we? in northampton i understand it was due to poor Tory management and Labour infighting that won us there not our policies there. One question for our new administrion there? will we develope the football stadium?

  • The Monk clearly didn’t see the Lib Dem manifesto for Northampton which was fully publicised and far more comprehensive than either of the other parties. See http://www.northamptonlibdems.org.uk Our policies did help us win in Northampton. One of our key priorities is the regeneration of the town centre which certainly resonated with people – the development of the football stadium cannot detract from that.
