Seeking the best Council Groups

For the second year, the Lib Dem Group at the Local Government Association are seeking to promote the best Lib Dem council groups in the country, by inviting groups who have made a difference in the past year to send in details of their achievements.

They are particularly looking for groups with a track record or a flagship policy in

  • Tackling Anti-Social Behaviour
  • Helping children and young people
  • Supporting culture, leisure and regeneration
  • Improving local housing
  • Improving Transport
  • Improving social care services

In addition, there are specific awards, including the Council Group of the Year, the Green Council Group of the Year, and the Backbencher of Year, for the non-executive Lib Dem councillor who has made the biggest difference to their community and council in the last year. Finally, the Vice Presidents Award is also available for Lib Dem council groups worthy of special mention.

Some of the awards are available for groups that aren’t in control – if for example your council group has excellent campaigns around the policy areas above – and the VP’s award is also intended for opposition groups.

    I nominate the Lib Dem group in Westminster for doing the absolute best to help the local community. Not a single Liberal has been elected to any local authority since February 1919.
