I want to discuss this at the station, I say. I’m not happy with this situation. I don’t like being stopped in the street and told in a threatening tone, to delete my photos. They look at me blankly, not expecting this burst of ire. Come on I say, I want to make an official complaint. They look somewhat taken aback at that. I walk ahead and look over my shoulder, beckoning for them to follow. Come on, I say, lets go. Now they look a a bit mortified. I daresay this is the first time they have ever had a member of the public ask them to accompany him to the Station.

PCSOs. Blunkett’s Bunglers. Says it all really. Unthinking officious mediocrity is alive and well and not just limited to Town Hall.
And some people wonder why the Police are called the filth.
Well, I for one always wonder why the police are called the filth. Who are you phoning at 4am when you’re worried someone is snooping around the back of your house? I’m sure it’s the police. Who will try to deal with God-knows-what is thrown at them. Don’t they deserve better than to be called ‘filth’ and ‘mediocre’?
PCSOs have to go. They’re just officious bullies who’ve done nothing but make a nuisance of themselves. And Russ – try it some time. They won’t come until it’s too late.
I have tried it, and the response has been fine. Will it work that way every time? No, but what organisation of a similar size can claim anything better?
For the time being, I think it’s fair to refrain from saying all PCSO or PCs are officious or bullies or whatever. It’s pretty silly to pretend that we know the motivation or character of every one of the people doing this job.
Round here the pcsos are helpful and much better than the “real” cops – one of whom verbally abused me recently
There are good cops and bad cops.
In fact they are taught to employ the technique by their masters in order to get the desired results.
The only way we’ll ever be rid of the bad cops is if the public voluntarily stops breaking the law and counterproductive new laws designed to entrap ordinary people stop being enacted, or their political masters change and decide that there are more effective techniques.
Just one more reason to be a LibDem.
